Dear All,
I have revised my itinerary yet again and completely changed the order in which I am travelling to each place. The reason for this was to try and reduce the number of flights down from 5 to 4 and also to reduce the 2 month interail pass down to 1 month. The places to visit which I have never heard of have been kindly contributed by Herrbert and madamtrashheap. Many thanks to both of you!
My revised itinerary:
Spain Madrid (3) 02/06/2007 (includes Toleda) Barcelona (3) 05/06/2007
Greece Athens (3) 08/06/2007 (flight from Bareclona) Naxos (2) 11/06/2007 Santorini (3) 13/06/2007 Athens (1) 16/07/2007 (staying the night only because the ferry from Santorini to Athens is long)
Italy Milan (1) 17/06/2007 (really cheap flight from Athens) Florence (4) 18/06/2007 Rome (4) 22/06/2007 Naples (3) 26/06/2007 (Sorrento+capri and also 1 month interail pass starts) Venice (4) 29/07/2007
Austria Vienna (4) 03/07/2007 Salzburg (3) 07/07/2007 (includes Halstatt) Germany Munich (4) 10/07/2007 (includes castles) Austria Innsbruck (2) 14/07/2007
Switzerland Lucerne (2) 16/07/2007 Interlaken (3) 18/07/2007 (plus Gimmelwald,Murren,Lauterbrunnen) Zermatt (2) 21/07/2007 (plus Matterhorn) Martigny (0) 23/07/2007 France Chamonix (3) 23/07/2007 (Aiguille du midi) Paris (4) 26/07/2007 Home 30/07/2007
I would be very gratful it if you could comment on the above itinerary.
Many thanks

Some quick comments:
I think 3 days for Madrid and Toledo is really tight, especially when you also have to consider a day to recover from the jetlag.
I would swap one day of Florence, for an extra day in Rome, and 4 days for Venice, seems like a lot, 1 less would do in my opinion. (unless you need this time, to train to Vienna, because it is a long trip)
For the rest it looks fine, looks you are almost there.
P.S. I was looking at maybe a flight between Santorini (Thira) and Rome or Milan, and normaly Aegean Airlines would fly this route, but I am not getting results. this might be because they are not yt up to date, with the new summer shedule, so that might be something to keep an eye on.

Glad to have been of assistance lynx! Itinerary looks good and I agree with Herrbert's point about flying from Santorini.
P.S. I was looking at maybe a flight between Santorini (Thira) and Rome or Milan, and normaly Aegean Airlines would fly this route, but I am not getting results. this might be because they are not yt up to date, with the new summer shedule, so that might be something to keep an eye on.
They only appear to have up to April schedule on the Internet, but they do fly to Milan and Rome via Athens from Santorini, which would save the extra night in Athens (not that there's anything wrong with an extra night in Athens). And 4 days in Venice is a little too long (2 full days would be perfect) so you can allocate the extra days to Rome & Madrid (as per the suggestion). Can't remember if I've already suggested it (probably have - just typed too much lately!), but Vienna could include a day (or half-day) trip to Bratislava by hydrofoil down the Danube (breakfast in Vienna, lunch in Bratislava, dinner in Vienna! ;D). And I'm assuming the day trip(s) from Florence is/are sorted (Pisa, San Gimignano, Siena). The rest is looking great, now you can get excited!

on the flight from Santorini theme:
might you think about rearranging your plan some? perhaps fly from Santorini to Munich or Vienna, going to the other destinations from one of those? <there are flights listed on Condor or TUIfly from Santorini to Munich and on airaberlin/Niki from Santorini to Vienna> actually, Vienna might flow better.
the flight might cost more, <€192> but it'd you save lots of time!

Dear all, Thanks again for your comments above and I've taken them into consideration (especially the flight from Santorini to Rome which I thought was excellent!) As suggested, I've swapped my extra day in Florence and Venice and given to Rome and Madrid. Below is my final itinerary which has taken me quite awhile to prepare (but would have taken alot longer without your help!!)....and boy am I happy with it! Here is it (one final time ) Spain Madrid (4) 02/06/2007 (includes Toleda) Barcelona (3) 06/06/2007 Greece Athens (3) 09/06/2007 (flight from Bareclona) Naxos (2) 12/06/2007 Santorini (3) 14/06/2007 Italy Rome (5) 17/06/2007 (flight from Santorini) Naples (3) 22/06/2007 (Sorrento+capri ) Florence (3) 25/06/2007 (Pisa, San Gimignano and Siena and also 1 month interail pass starts) Venice (3) 28/07/2007 Austria Vienna (4) 01/07/2007 Salzburg (3) 05/07/2007 (includes Halstatt) Germany Munich (4) 08/07/2007 (includes castles) Austria Innsbruck (2) 12/07/2007 Switzerland Lucerne (2) 14/07/2007 Interlaken (3) 16/07/2007 (plus Gimmelwald,Murren,Lauterbrunnen) Zermatt (2) 19/07/2007 (plus Matterhorn) Martigny (0) 21/07/2007 France Chamonix (3) 21/07/2007 (Aiguille du midi) Paris (4) 24/07/2007 Home 28/07/2007 Thanks once again.

Looks great lynx! Would still like to see you stay in Sorrento rather than Naples (you can reach Capri from Sorrento by 45-60min ferry or 30min hydrofoil), just because I think you'll enjoy that part of the coast more. Of course, Naples has lots to see too (Archaeological Museum, San Severo church, Castel Nuovo, Capodimonte museum, pastry at Gran Caffe Gambrinus and of course pizza), but if you're not spending much time there, and already want to see Sorrento, just stay down there instead. Plus you can get to Pompei from Sorrento too.
Don't forget to post a "Just Back" report when you get back and let us know any new info (hostels, sights, etc).
Have a great trip! ;D
