Hey guys,
I'm going to be studying abroad in Italy this summer, and I figure, since I'm there anyway, why not do a little traveling?
The only restrictions in my itinerary is that I have to be in my studying abroad classes [Veneto region] from June 24 to July 20, although each weekend are long weekends - last class Fri afternoon until next class Tuesday morning of which I can travel as well, and I have to back in the States by August 20 for fall classes.
Here are some working itineraries:
Fly US -> London (stay a few days) -> ryanair/easyjet to Zagreb (-> Split -> Dubrovnik -> fly back to Zagreb? if time, or else just zagreb/plitvice) -> Ljubljana -> Bled -> Venice -> CLASS WEEK 1 -> Florence weekend -> CLASS WEEK 2 -> Rome weekend -> CLASS WEEK 3 -> Cinque terre weekend -> CLASS WEEK 4 -> Innsbruck? -> Gimmelwald -> Munich -> Salzburg (sidetrip Hallstatt) -> Vienna -> Budapest -> Prague -> Cesky Krumlov -> Dresden -> Berlin -> ryanair/easyjet
to London (no staying) -> return to the US
-the first iteniary could be tweaked to fly from london to ljubljana and skip zagreb if no time
or
Fly US -> London (stay a few days) -> ryanair/easyjet to Rome -> (maybe sidetrips to Pompeii/Capri/Ischia?) -> Venice -> CLASS WEEK 1 -> Florence weekend ->
CLASS WEEK 2 -> Cinque Terre weekend -> CLASS WEEK 3 -> Ljubljana/Bled weekend -> CLASS WEEK 4 -> [same as above from innsbruck to return to us]
If these are too rushed, if you can suggest which ones to eliminate and which ones to definitely see, feel free to suggest. [If you have any specific comments/suggestions/tips for any of these places, such as hostels or things to do/eat/etc, that'll be great as well] -
the part from after class week 4 to leaving US will have to be within a span of a month, just to let you know - july 20 to aug 20 the latest. the part prior to class week 1 is most likely about a week or two max.
Anyway, I was wondering, what kind of pass should I get? Should I get multiple passes? I'll probably be in europe for two months, but a lot of the first
month I'll be in class and won't be able to travel, but I wasn't sure if I should get two months worth of eurailpass or one month (for the second month), and
just an italy pass for the first? Or, should I get a selectpass instead of a full eurailpass since I am pretty much only traveling to a few countries
(germany, austria, switz, italy - also czech and hungary)?
Oh yeah, I've did a little research and figured that it was cheaper to fly into London and then using ryanair or easyjet to fly into the cities I want, then
just directly flying from the US to those cities, but how much of an hassle is this? I figure I could spend a few days in London anyway and sightsee. I just
wondered how much of a hassle it is to transfer between airports in London if needed?
Oh yeah, best sites to search for cheap airfare from US to Europe?
I'm sure I'll have more questions later about packing and the actual traveling life. But for now, thanks!
