Guten Tag!
We're writing from that famous (infamous?) home of Oktoberfest and lederhosen, Munich! This is the first town we've been in a while that's jam packed full of tourists from all over, and we've discovered that while it's a slight shock to the system, it's somewhat enjoyable to understand the bickering couples, "Don't yell at me! I'm on vacation!" and being able to be the only ones in the entire museum who understand that the guard is trying to say "Hear that alarm? That means you're too close to the paintings!"
I can't quite remember what we last wrote about, but we stayed in a great non toursity town, Freiburg, a week ago. From there we actual made it back to France to see Le Corbusier's Ronchamp Chapel. We were thwarted by the train strikes back in May. Yes, it only took 9 trains and the entire day. But Rob was thrilled and took many photos. I enjoyed seeing all the architects just ignore the "No photos, please" signs and climb all over the chapel and pulpit.
Our stop before here was in Switzerland, where we spent 4 days and 4 nights in utter luxury in Vals. For those of you who are unaware (translate: those of you who aren't architects) there's a very famous spa designed by an Swiss architect named Peter Zumthor. We've had a few friends go and rave about it, so it was one place we decided we had to go to. Definitely a must go if you have contemplated going. It's literally in the middle of nowhere, the spa itself was smaller and the hotel larger than we thought, but the rooms were extremely comfortable and the food was really good. The spa itself was a great place to be, and we both got treatments - Rob got his first massage and I got my first mud pack. The area around it is amazingly beautiful. Of course, it was very hard to leave, but not that hard when we saw the bill... ouch. But it was definitely worth it!
We hope everyone's doing well, we're getting a little homesick and I've been dreaming about mexican food and my cats (and my friends So Young and Mike featured in a very strange dream of mine...) but we're very excited to head into Austria and Hungary.
By the way, we've read the new Harry Potter book... if anyone wants to email us their thoughts, please do!
Love, Mari and Rob
