Alright I think I am very close. I have all the dates filled in with places on my itinerary. See what you guys think, and if I should add or subtract some places. Fly into Milan from London Italy[/u] Milan - 1 Verona - 2 Venice - 3 Bologna - 2 Florence - 4 Siena - 1 Rome - 5 Sorrento - 3 ****Sorrento to either Pisa,Rome, or CT. Either way it is going to be a long travel day, but not sure where I should spend the evening. Or maybe night train?**** CT - 5 Genoa - 2 Turin - 1 Como - 3 Stresa - 1 Switzerland[/u] Gimmelwald - 3 Luzern - 2 Germany[/u] Munich - 4 Austria[/u] Innsbruck - 1 Salzburg - 2 Vienna - 2 Czech Rep[/u] Prague - 5 (Should be there for my birthday ;D) Germany[/u] Dresden - 1 Berlin - 4 Munster - 2 Netherlands[/u] Amsterdam - 3 Belgium[/u] Brussels - 1 Brugge - 2 France[/u] Paris - 4 Fly to either Cork or Dublin (right now thinking Cork) *edit: Looking around flying into Dublin would be much cheaper so probably would be doing that. UK/Ireland[/u] Cork - 2 Galway - 3 Dublin - 2 Belfast - 2 Inverness - 3 Edinburgh - 2 London - 4 That is the order my trip would go. Hopefully this is pretty close so I can get to making hostel reservations shortly. Thanks again for all the help, and definitely feel free to slap me if you think I am missing something.

Then try Easyjet, they are flying from Gatwick to Milan-Malpensa or Milan-Linate. They can have some good offers. (it would mean a detour).
Another option might be to take an Alitalia flight, from Heathrow, but that's a bit more expensive.
You could also opt for flights by AirBerlin or Ryanair from London-Stansted (or Luton) to Milan - Orio al Serio, the airport in Bergamo. (but that's a bit further from Milan, and I don't know how good the connections to the city are (if somebody know, maybe (s)he can fill this in)

there's a night train, EX 806, it departs Naples [you'd need to train there from Sorrento] at 21.38, gets to La Spezia Centrale at 04.14. about 6½ hours. [better than the 5½ hours to Pisa] theres a train from La Spezia Centrale to Monterosso at 04.30. it takes less than ½ hour. thats better if you're staying in Monterosso. <snip> Sorrento - 3 ****Sorrento to either Pisa,Rome, or CT. Either way it is going to be a long travel day, but not sure where I should spend the evening. Or maybe night train?**** CT - 5 <snip> Edit: just found this page. *i* don't even remember all this stuff. so, i guess i need to go back to Münster again! but, i do remember that Münster was named the most bicycle friendly city in Europe. [no mean feat with Dutch cities also in the running] www.gonomad.com/destinations/0402/muenstergermany.html

Ya it looks like I am just going to pay a little more to fly from heathrow via Alitalia. That way I don't have to stress about getting somewhere else in a relatively short amount of time.
That train sounds perfect David! I appreciate all the help. At times I get a bit overwhelmed especially by the transportation end of this trip.

But as you've discovered, flying from Heathrow rather than schlepping across London to another airport is a better idea. And $110 isn't a bad price for Alitalia.

On the other hand, if you take the metro (Paccadilly-Line), you would have to make only one stopover at Holborn station (Central-Line), to get to Liverpool station (where you can get on the Stansted Express). So on the number of changes, it not that bad at all.) I agree taking the Alitalia flight would reduce the stress as you don't have to worry about connections at all.

funny, i associate "schlep" with the German verb for "to tow." hence, that one has a load to carry. On a good day that trip from Heathrow to Holborn alone takes 1hr15mins, hence the term "schlep".

Have you ever tried to get across London on the Tube with luggage? Schlep is a pretty accurate description! ;D

Yes I have ... but I would also associate "schlep'' with the German verb: schleppen = to tow.
Sure it takes time to cross such a big city, but as long as I don't have to make too many stopovers, it's not that bad. When I can put down my bag, then it doesn't matter that much.
Of course nothing beats, sticking to Heathrow, but if I could save a lot of money, I would cross the City. (I am Dutch ...) I would probably stick my head above the ground somewhere to see a little bit of London (and wish I could stay a little longer)
