hi all,
after one night of sleeping/staying up at a train station and one night in venezia, we are now in Firenze and on my last stretch before coming back to the states next saturday. so far it's been frustrating finding an inexpensive place to stay in italy (avg. 25 EUR a night) so lesson learned - PLAN AHEAD if visiting during the high season. firenze has been great so far, not too hot and easy to get around on foot. we saw Michelangelo's David this morning in the Accademia and i was able to sneak a couple of pictures in even if the sign expressly stated no photos. don't worry - with respect to preserving the art, i did not use flash.
it was funny to see this employee chase after an unsuspecting tourist with her camera. so what i did was hide behind a column while there were hordes of tour groups and took shots. i think i got a pretty good angle...we'll see when i upload them. we then visited the Duomo - yet another beautiful cathedral. after lunch we visited capelle di medici - where the famous family is buried and where michelangelo designed some of their headstones. we headed to the uffizi where works by michelangelo, leonardo, raphael, etc. are displayed. future museum tourists beware - the museum fees can start to pile up (6.50 for the Accademia and 8 EUR for the Uffizi). and like i said...during high season with rising prices of accommodations...that can definitely add up.
so tomorrow is yet another day and we leave for cinque terra on monday for one night. after that...my last stop is rome for a few days then london before i fly back to the states.
hope everybody is doing well...and ciao! for now...
love,
vette.
