One Day More!
Tuesday, 12 August 2003
So in approximately 24 hours my plane will be taking off from Pearson International en route to Paris and eventually Geneva. Wow! I can hardly believe it.
The planning for this trip officially began back in September. It was then that I began to contemplate the possibility of going to study in France. BUT the dreaming -- oh the dreaming started when I was about twelve!
I think it all began when I read a book about a high school girl who went to France to study for the summer. Part of the reason she was going to Paris was to find the man her grandmother had fallen in love with shortly after WWII. I remember reading about visiting the Eiffel tower and hiding underneath an awning while it rained. It sounded like nothing short of heaven!
It was then that I think a dream was born . . .
The next identifiable moment was when I saw a picture in a French text-book of the Place des Vosges in Paris. I didn't know what it was but to me it looked perfect. It was a grassy square filled with people sitting there enjoy the afternoon sun. I remember seeing the affluent homes in the background. I was mesmerized by that picture -- unusually so! I even said that one day I would live in one of the houses in the background!! Silly me!!!
And now that my departure is so close it really still feels like a dream. I can scarcely believe that something I've wanted so badly is finally coming true.
Next time you hear from me I will be in Europe!
In the meantime I would like to thank all of you for your good wishes. And please don't stop sending those happy thoughts up to heaven for me!
Cheers!
