I've asked for itinerary advice in another thread but I forgot to mention Switzerland! Francefiend offered me this itinerary, which I think is great but where and how could I fit in Switzerland? Gimmlewald preferably. London -> Amsterdam (train via Brussels) Amsterdam -> Paris - Thalys train Paris -> Barcelona - Elipsos night train or budget flight Barcelona -> Nice - train or plane Nice <-> Monaco - train Nice -> Milan Milan -> Venice Venice -> Florence Florence -> Rome p.s. This is for a 4-6 week trip. Thanks!

greeneyeddreamer, based on the Itinerary you posted, it could be challenging to fit this in. However the most logical route to visit Switzerland (Gimmelwald) would be to add this between Nice and Milan. It's going to be a long trip by train though, about 9.5 hours with a minimum of 2 changes (due to the fact there would be several changes on this route, using a night train / Couchette would not be my choice).
You could also consider a budget flight from Nice to Geneva. EasyJet has flights on this route for as low as €24.49 (price will depend on when you book though). The flight is only one hour, which would certainly reduce your travelling time! The rail trip from Geneve to Interlaken Ost would be about 2H47M with one change in Bern (depending on which train you selected). From Interlaken the trip to Gimmelwald is fairly short.
Good luck with your planning!

Great, thanks!
I want to take as many budget flights as possible to save travel time and those prices sound ridiculously cheap.

greeneyeddreamer, one thing regarding the "cheap" prices. Most budget airlines use somewhat of a "sliding scale", so as the seats on a particular flight fill-up, the price goes up. Therefore it's a good idea to book early. Some of the budgets use out-of-the-way airports, so if that's the case for the flights you choose, you'll have to factor in the cost and time to get to the airport.
One very important point though. Usually, flights booked on budget airlines are non-refundable and in some cases non-changeable. Read the fine print and book carefully!!! Also, be sure to pack light as some of them have very restrictive weight limits. I got "nicked" with an overweight charge by RyanAir a few months ago, even though I was only slightly over the limit. I'm not sure if EasyJet has similar policies?
Cheers!

From Interlaken the trip to Gimmelwald is fairly short. another option would be a flight from Nice to Zürich with AirBerlin.com or Germanwings.com (didn't check prices) the train from Zürich airport to Interlaken Ost takes less time than from Geneve to Interlaken Ost, per bahn.de - d
