My boyfriend and I are going to be in Munich for Oktoberfest this year! Now the only problem is, finding a cheap place to stay. I've been searching hostels, and there are still some available but they are all soo expensive! Like, around 30-60 euros per person, per night.
So my question is, first, any advice would be greatly appreciated, and second, what are some towns that are very close to munich that perhaps would be cheaper for us to stay in and then we could just commute into the city for the fesitval?
we're open to options too! Camping? Couch surfing? Sleep on the streets? lol just kidding...

I think most of the beds at the tent are taken, but I'm pretty sure they've still got a bunch of camping spaces! (I've got a bed there for a few days )

There are still beds left on some days, but I think you'll find weekends are booked up already.
eurobound44, if The Tent is booked up on the days you're there, you might have to bite the bullet and book a hostel or even budget hotel - Oktoberfest is a popular time in Munich, thus the prices go up to suit the demand.

eurobound44, that's great news! Munich during Oktoberfest is chaotic in an ordered kind of way (when you see it you'll know what I mean!) so have fun and make sure you take the rollercoaster before you go inside one of the beerhalls! And for something a little more Bavarian, try the Paulaner hall, not just the Hofbräu or Löwenbräu ones.

Schottenhamel Festzelt is the tent with the biggest attraction: it's where Munich's Lord-mayor starts the festivities All well and good, but try getting in there to see all the action on opening day - fast unmöglich! Most of the reserved places available would be gone by now, but see how you go if you're there on opening day. Going there on other days, though, is a treat!

Knew there'd have to be a "secret" method! Now I know who to contact next time I'm there! ;D

table reservations are now available online. don't know when they become available to reserve. November of the year prior is when they open bookings - and yep, they get snaffled fast. But worth trying if you're going to be there on opening day.

Ooh.. I will definitely take these recommendations of tents and use 'em! And I'm booked at The Tent the nights of Sept 21-24.

Stylescriber, you have to be kidding - the Mandarin Oriental is not going to be in anyone's budget range for Oktoberfest. This might be the wrong site to be spamming LuxuryLink.

Haha... WillTravel: I certainly agree! I can barely afford The Tent! (And it seems there's quite a few links to luxurylink through the other threads....)
