This means they have placed you in a separate building than the main hotel, but one they also own. It is fairly common in Venice (and some other cities in Italy).

Maybe the main building does not have any shared-bath rooms. Are the reviews for the second building much worse than for the first building? That would be my only concern. If you did fight it (and get your deposit back), where would you stay instead?

after emailing for more information, this is what i received:
the room shared bathroom is situated near Ca' D'oro, Stop of the boat, 3 minutes walk to Rialto Bridge and 10 minutes from San Marco Square. The address of residence is Calle Zotti 3888 but the check in and check-out is in Hotel Ariel Silva ( Cannaregio - Rio' Tera San Leonardo- Calle Della Masena 1391/A ).
and
the reservation shared bathroom is just in residence our Hotel Ariel Silva but is better the location Ca' D'oro because is in historical heart of Venice.
the name of the second apartment is "Apartments venezia". i checked with tripadvisor and it's gotten good reviews (although only 2 reviews were given). Since the location is closer to san marco and the rooms seem very nice (with a little kitchen), i think we'll just do the switch without any fuss. hehe
thanks WillTravel.

To get a kitchen in Venice is great, because you'll be able to save some money for sure.
