I am flying from Paris-Rome and the only flights I can really find are ones from Paris Orly. Is that much further from de gulle? If the flight leaves at 7 in the AM then would it be possible to get to the airport by like 5:30? Or does anyone know of any other airlines that fly to Rome from Paris? I am willing to pay more than a buget (but not too much) I just want to find a good flight. Thanks for the help. Bret

Paris Orly is better (IMO) and closer than CDG (de Gaulle). Pointofnoreturn spent the night at Orly, but there are also both public transit and taxi options. I would aim to be there at 5 AM. Check www.whichbudget.com .

To get there that early, you'd need to book a room at a nearby hotel that offers a shuttle ride to the airport (triple check with them!) or book a taxi. You need to be in line 2 hours to secure your place. I believe that the metro system isn't running at that time. However, the buses might be.... I'm not sure but I know there are night buses.
I've spent the night at that airport, was very pleasant and I woke up in time to get in line for a 7 AM flight to Rome.

Okay I have come to the conclusion that none of the flights I want are going to work because there is no way of us getting to the airport from our hostel at 5 in the AM. And our hostel won't let us check in after 18:30 and that is when the flight leaves...So after much thought and consideration I am now leaning towards an overnight train. Has anyone ever been on one of these? Are they pretty safe? Would it be a good idea? It would definetly save a day so that gives us an entire extra day in Paris. If anyone has any information please let me know. Thanks. Bret

Why don't you just sleep in the airport? On your last day in Paris, when you check out, dump your bags in a locker at a train station and pick them up around 9 PM and then take the metro/bus to Orly Airport and stay there overnight? You'll only be there for a few hours tops before checking into your flight. Your first day in Rome will be somewhat lackluster because it's not like you're going to jump off the plane and go straight to the Colosseum.

egh I don't feel comfortable sleeping at the airport since this is my first backpacking trip. I think it would be easier just to take the train, plus the overnight train adds to the experience.
