I'm hoping to attend some native sporting events while I backpack around Norway, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, and Spain in late May and early June.
Are sports as prolific like in the States? Any suggestions on which games are best or how it is to get tickets would be helpful.

I'm hoping to attend some native sporting events By this do you mean football/soccer? Coz it kinda is a "native sport", so to speak! However, in late May/early June the season is winding down to there are scant games to be had, so if you are interested in going, you'll have to do some checking on dates (and then ticket availability), but you might get lucky with Euro 2008 games. If it's not football you're into, have a look at sports like Handball, Tennis and also on the site www.whatsonwhen.com as you might find a few festivals as well as sporting events that interest you.

Football, is the no.1 sport in Europe for sure, but all the championships are now in the last stages. (I believe that is true for almost any sport: Hockey / Volleyball) For Norway I would say: Ski-Jumping, and before you call me crazy ... yes, they are also jumping in summer. But you really need to make a check were, and when. For Spain, you always have the discussion, whether or not bullfighting (including Running of the bulls) is a sport or culture, or just something horrible. In May you have the San Indriso festival in Madrid, with fights everyday.

In Netherlands, there is a big rivalry between Ajax and Feyenoord. If you can catch one of those games, it would be a sight to see. By June though, most football seasons have finished though, so you may only catch a friendly by chance. Euro 2008 is in Austria this year, and the Champions league final is in Moscow (Chelsea and Man United, will be an amazing unforgettable match)
