I've heard good things about the Goat Hostel but haven't stayed there myself. Also have a look at www.budapesthotels.com for some ideas on costs and locations, but I've never booked through them so can't vouch for them. Depending on budget, have a look at www.accorhotels.com and check the Budapest Ibis Centrum as it might suit your purposes. You could also try www.inyourpocket.com for some ideas.

In 2005 I stayed at the Red Bus Hostel www.redbusbudapest.hu for 4 nights and I really liked it. It's a good location, and the staff was friendly and spoke English. Even if you don't end up staying at Red Bus, I would recommend staying on the east side of the river. Budapest is beautiful-- enjoy!
