I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful last minute package holiday to introduce junior Crystal to the wonders of travel. Doing a quick web search has threw up loads of greece packages. So a quick straw poll among people - Kos or Rhodes if they were the only choices?
- You can only visit one of the islands - free choice what would it be and why?
- Any must sees?
- How is public transport - getting around - remember little baby on board?
- How cheap is it on the ground - living costs ect we will probably be self catering but would like to eat out sometimes?
- Anything else to look out for - hints and tips?
I know Kos and Rhodes are really touristy but I'm just after a cheap get away in the sun to recharge the batteries and these places are getting thrown up on the searches.

Hey Crystal, great to hear you're planning on getting the mini backpack off to an early start!
These are two islands I haven't yet been to in Greece (d'oh!), and you can't go wrong with either really (impressive sights on both), but I'd be more inclined to choose Kos. Depending on how long you're there, you might even throw in a trip to Bodrum in Turkey if it takes your fancy. The list of islands didn't come through on your Post - can you write it again?
Blessedly, Greece is still relatively cheap for travellers (even the "touristy" islands) compared to the rest of Europe - and you can't beat fresh calamari from the front door! What time of year are you planning on going - now?

I was planning on grabbing a trip fairly soon because i don't want to go when it is silly hot ( for junior backpacker) or when it's really busy. Definatly before the end of June. I never wrote a list perhaps the computer thought I should have I was leaving it open to suggestions. Please to hear it's still quite cheap and I love the fresh traditional food you get in Europe. Processed food is barely heard of.
