I'm flying from Barcelona to Rome with Ryan Air this summer and I've heard some horror stories about the airline. Anything that I should know beforehand?

Arrange to be there two hours in advance. Take an earlier shuttle bus (because the airport is *not* Barcelona) than recommended. Make sure your luggage fits the limits.

Ryan Air are fairly tight on baggage limits so check your weights or you will be charged extra on top of your flight.

already got the tickets unfortunately. does anyone know if there is a shuttle to the airport from barcelona? i've heard there is a 15kg limit on a checking bag and a 10kg limit on a carry on. my packpack has a zip away daypack so will i be able to carry that on separately? or does that mean you get one or the other. the website is kind of unclear and the hotline to call is insanely expensive.

thanks so much for your help.
So I won't have to pay extra for a carry on even if it's overweight if I already paid?
Do you suggest the bus or the train?

You will have to pay extra for overweight luggage, and you'll have to leave the line, head to a different line to pay, come back to the check-in line, and hope you don't run afoul of Ryanair's strict time rules.
So - just make sure you don't have overweight luggage, is my suggestion.
I'd suggest the bus, as it goes directly to the airport, and take one that allows you extra time, as buses often run slower than listed in the schedule.

sammyv, my experience with RyanAir is pretty much as WT described. They have VERY strict baggage weight limits, and are brutal at enforcing them. If your bag is over limit, you´ll have to stand in another queue to pay the charges, and then return to the original line to check your bag. If you´re using a Backpack, you may find yourself in yet another line for "non standard luggage".
I flew from Bristol to Dublin with RyanAir last fall, and encountered the "overweight" situation. In addition, they cut the Lock off my Pack even though I was using one of the special "Travel Sentry" Padlocks. I was NOT impressed!
On future travels, I will use RyanAir ONLY if there are no alternatives.
Good luck and happy travels!

Well....that's nice to know. Are there other discount airlines that cover a flight from Barcelona to Rome without all of these strict rules?

Add Iberia to the list too, usually pretty cheap one-way flights if you can book ahead. And they fly from Barcelona airport (BCN) and not Girona (GRO) which Ryanair classes as Barcelona.

Vueling and Clickair are not as cheap as Ryanair for the Barcelona to Rome route....but I am assuming they are more reputable, yes? Has anyone ever flown with them?
BTW, I can't even find a flight from Barcelona to Rome anymore via Ryanair. Have they stopped operating that particular route? I'm still considering undergoing the "terror" of Ryanair for the sake of saving money.

Ah. I rebuke my last question. The Girona loophole. I have found my cheap flight. But will I take it?
