hi, i'm booked on a flight from ORLY paris to rome. here's what's in my reservation: 2 Hold bag(s) per one-way flight
The 2 passenger(s) in this booking may check in a combined total of 2 hold bag(s) for each flight on this booking. The 20kg hold bag weight allowance (per passenger) does not increase with the addition of further hold bags.Does "hold bag" mean "checked bag" ? if so, can i have a small suit case as "carry on"? does that count towards my limit? this is all so confusing!!!!! please help!

Yes I would assume hold bag is checked bag.

A hold bag is indeed a checked bag - ie the bag that goes under the plane in the "hold".
This means that you are noting on your booking that you and your friend will be checking in a total of 2 bags (to go under the plane), each of which can not weigh more than 20kg. If you happened to be wanting to check 3 bags in, the allowance per passenger would still only be 20kg.
If it's EasyJet you're flying with (Ryanair is 15kg limit) then you can each have another bag to carry on the plane with you, but you must be reasonable in it's size and weight and you must be able to lift it into the overhead lockers without assistance...and it must fit. For EasyJet, the carry on bag does not count towards to total limit. Other airlines are not a generous with their carry on weight limits.

i see. thanks guys.
So basically each one of us can have a bag that's 40 lbs (total 80 lbs between us) that we can check. then, we can EACH take a carry on bag (typical size) on board without worrying about counting its weight.
and yes, it's easy jet....not ryan air.

1 checked bag and 1 carry-on bag per person EasyJet is more relaxed with their bag rules but it's dependent upon the airport you're flying out of. For example, most airports let me take two carry-on's (my big purse bag and my small backpack) but one airport (Athens) made me put my purse bag into my backpack during security. It doesn't make sense because I would have taken it out once I got on the plane anyway.

I had the experience with EasyJet at Paris Orly several years ago that they were very strict, stricter than the stated rules, about the size of carry-on luggage.

Weird - I had no problems at Paris Orly. They let me have two carry-on's and did the same for my travelling partner. Like I already mentioned, it's really dependent upon the airport and the staff and how lenient they are with the baggage rules. Some don't care and some are very strict - pretty much a 50/50 chance you'll end up with a nice check-in agent.
