I'm going to Germany, Italy and France for three weeks (leaving 13 May!) and this is my list so far... -2 pair lightweight pants (should I bring one lightweight and a pair of jeans? I love my jeans!) -1 capris -1 shorts -1 below the knee skirt -3 tanks -3 t shirts -1 long sleeve -1 cardigan -1 Northface rain/everyday jacket -3 bras (2 reg and 1 sport) -7 pairs of underwear -1 shawl/scarf (can dress up an outfit and for warmth) -1 swimsuit -somewhat dressy flats -flip flops -good walking sandals (I would rather have sandals than tennis shoes) -magic washcloth and towel -toiletries -detergent -Tide pen -pillow case -ear plugs -photocopies of important docs -travel alarm clock -journal and paperback book -travel locks -first aid kit -sewing kit -ziplock bags -individual Kleenex packs -water bottle -guidebook -ATM and credit card -compass Do I need...? -travelers checks? -a sleep sheet? -a money belt? (I have a locked daypack) Do I have too many clothes? If yes, what should I take out? Should I not take shorts? I've heard it's a bad idea... This is my toiletries case. Is it too big and bulky? www.zurichvirtual.com/catalog/popup_image.php?pID=7645&osCsid=21c2a0d872b51d2623745bbb0a88e8e1&tienda=zurich&tienda_id=1Any other suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

Don't bring shorts - 99.9% chance you won't wear them. I brought them along cause I was going to Greece and even I didn't wear shorts there. Sleep sheet - I think you should be fine. If a hostel requires a sleep sheet, they often have a bunch available for rent. Not to mention, not bringing one = more room in your luggage. Traveller's checks = NO. Use your credit card for online purchases (i.e. tickets) and your debit card for ATM withdrawals. Detergent = I honestly don't think you should bring it. I did my laundry every couple of days (usually at the end of every week or whenever it was convenient) at a laundromat. They sell detergent pretty cheap there as well. You might want to invest in a nice pair of running shoes (tennis shoes or whatever) because doing the whole trip in your sandals is calling for a disaster. Trust me - I practically lived in my Aldo sandals because I hate running shoes. I only wore the shoes for Paris (it was cold) and for hiking (obviously) and did the rest in my sandals. My feet were a nightmare and to this day (it's been a year now), it's still as bad as it was before. You could invest in a pair of these shoes: www.amazon.com/Reebok-Womens-Sporty-Beach-Sneaker/dp/B000B85LT6I bought them after my trip and now I live in them. They're bendy, very thin and breathable, and not to mention, weigh next to nothing. I've gotten so many comments on them because people find them retro and "stylish" according to them haha. That would be a good addition to your list.

Keep in mind with debit cards, I'm pretty sure you're charged a certain % of your withdraw on top of what you withdraw. I think it's only 2 or 3 but that can still add up.
