Hey All, I am booking my travel from Corfu to Venice. I plan on taking a ferry and the cheapest seat (so the best seat in my opinion) is a deck seat for 50 euro. 1) Is this a good idea? and 2) are deck seats appropriate for long ferry trips 3) what is the best way from corfu to venice? I plan on staying at the Sunrock Backpackers and catching a ride to the ferry port. Lastly, that wont be a long trip to get to the port if i am staying there right?

phillytraveller, that particular ferry ride takes one and a half days so just keep that in mind for your deck seat. Can't remember what time of year you're travelling off the top of my head, but if it's still in Summer then it's warm enough to travel out there the whole way. You'll be sharing your area with lots of other travellers in Summer, so as long as you're OK with that and crowds then all good. Also, the shared bathroom facilities can get a bit ugly towards the end of the ride, but at least you have deck side seats for the arrival into Venice - spectacular! Stand on the starboard side (I'm so nautical ) for the most amazing views. As far as the "best" way to travel, obviously flying would be quicker, but to the best of my knowledge there are no direct flights from Corfu to Venice - they usually go through Athens. The ferry ride is quite cool and if you have the time then go for it. The port of Venice is located up towards the Tronchetto part and there are Vaporetti (water busses) that travel from their to stops along the Grand Canal, but it's not far from Santa Lucia train station which is where most hostels are. I'm not familiar with Sunrock Backpackers in Corfu, but the island isn't too big and they will be able to advise the best way to reach the Port to catch your ferry. Some of these ferries leave rather early in the morning and you need to be at the Port at 5am sometimes, so just make sure you've taken the departure time into account so you don't miss it - it's a long swim up the Adriatic! Oh, and one last thing, some of those ferries can get diverted to Trieste (not far from Venice) or Ancona (a full day's travel to Venice) at the last minute and you might not know this until you board. It's not a common occurence, but it does happen, just a heads up.

corfu! Pink Palace baby!!!
Deck sucks, i'm not gonna lie. A buddy and I did it from Bari-Corfu.
my suggestion: buy 3-4 bottles of wine before you leave. Find a crew of people to hang out with, drink wine, play cards, conversate, whatever... and the time will pass by quickly.
goodluck.
