I saw this guy's documentary on OLN on the weekend.
He did a round the world trip in 2005, going through Australia, southeast Asia, India, Europe, and South America. Currently, he is doing another trip, in Africa.
He was a successful TV journalist, but decided he had to try this.
He is quite realistic about the hostel lifestyle and expenses. He met numerous interesting people, many of whom are featured in the documentary, including a 73-year-old man with various health problems who keeps on traveling and staying in hostels.
I get the impression, perhaps from the multiple temporary girlfriends mentioned, that Brook is a bit of a ladies' man on the road! (He is good-looking and articulate, so I'm sure that helps.)
Anyway, I looked up some links, and he also has a blog or two, which might be interesting to other budget travelers.
