There are vast differences between countries in Europe. Could you give us some idea of where you are going. Generally the UK, Scandinava and western Europe are the most expensive places with Eastern Europe being the cheaper places.

xmegx, that's a difficult question to answer, as the costs will vary somewhat by country and perhaps by city.
If you're staying in Hostels, often a "local" breakfast will be provided in the cost of the bed. These vary somewhat depending on which country you're in. Don't expect the typical North American breakfasts though - in Italy, France and others a Bun, Juice and Coffee sometimes all that's offered. Germany and Switzerland have more substantial breakfasts, at least in the Hotels and B&B's that I've stayed in - there will be cold meats, cheeses, yogurt, cereals, various juices, etc.
Depending on what you decide for lunch, a Panino and drink might be €5-8. Dinner will usually be the most expensive, again depending on what you order. Of course, if you want "familiar" food, there's always McDonalds (they are ubiquitous in Europe!), Burger King, Pizza Hut or whatever.
The usual benchmark here is to allow at least €75 per day for lodgings, food and miscellaneous expenses such as Museum admissions, local transit, etc. (however it's preferable to have €100 per day available if possible). This doesn't include air fares or rail pass.
Cheers!

I noticed you wanted to buy most of your food in stores. Here is a site where you can compare supermarket prices in the UK It will give you an idea of grocery prices. However there are cheaper (and more expensive) places to shop so think of this as a rough guide. www.mysupermarket.co.uk/If it asks for a post code (Zip code) use this one WC1 2QF (It's central London). You could also have a look on Tesco or Asda websites to have a look at prices in the UK. PS I found Rome (Italy) quite expensive

some of my suggestions. Using this method, my friend and I were able to keep food consumption costs down to a minimum (obviously if you're drinking beer 3-4 times a day at various pubs and beer gardens, it doesn't help lol)
> Cook a lot of your own food at night. > Prepare food for the day trips/adventures. > Eat a lot of fruit when posible. > Drink only water during the day.

zsoulan00,
That would be impossible for me! I don't get moving in the morning without at least two cups of coffee!
Cheers!

luckily none of us are suffering from a coffee addiction, so that should be no problem

I don't think I could enjoy my vacation if I am doing all these. Like what about authentic food? I might as well stay at home if this is the case.
