Hello!
How many of you remember last time when I was leaving Amsterdam and I missed my trains? If you don't, that is alright cus it happened again!!. Although this
time I missed one train due to celebrations I engaged with the night prior, but the second train was because of the tram that took just one minute too long to get to the train station.
Dresden, a beautiful town indeed. But I didn't found that out until this morning because last night I got here at around 8PM and guess what the turist info office was closed leaving me, again, without maps or anything. Now, it would have been fine if I had my guide with me, but I let a guy in Amsterdaam read it because he
wanted to find onfo on something or other and then I left it on my bed and I guess someone took it and put it on the book shelf thinking it was the hostels. So I had no directions to the hostel, no little map. So armed with
the confirmation letter whichc contained the hostel address and phone number I proceed to make a call and I get someone who spoke very little English. I got
some directions. I follow them and then get lost. It was dark and a cold breeze went by. Germans are cold and scary looking. I was about to get a taxi after wandering for about 30 mins without knowing where I was, but where would be the fun of that! Suddenly I saw one of the streets that the girl on the phone mentioned and followed it. I was on the wrong direction on a scary deserted street. I turn around an walk the other way and found the hostel, a block away from where I started to go on the opposite direction. What it was a 20 min walk, turned into an hour expedition.
The day started cold, misty, and rainy, but the sun graced me with his precense at around 4PM. I made my way to the Fauerkirsche and, I know someone who is
waiting for this, it is about 80% rebuilt. From the outside at least. I didn't get to go inside because, tours were every hour and I saw a sign that said "English tours at 5PM on Wednesday" so I said, well I'll walk around until 5 and then take the tour. I found the tourist info office and got my map and then off I went to the sites. Very impressive buidlings and all very close to each other. I was able to see it all in less than 7 hours. Of course that is not including exibits and stuff. There were 3 exhibits I wanted to catch: the Jewelry one at the Albertinum, which was closed, the tour of Fauerkirch, and the tour of the Opera house. I din't get to any of these, instead I went to the Ceramic and Porcelain exibit.
I was done with my walking and I was just burning time until 5PM so I went and did some people watching from the terrace in front of the albertinum, a little souvenir
shopping and postcards and stuff. I made my way back to the Faurkirsche and got ready for the tour. I forgot that today is Thursday! The tour is only on Wednesday. but I didnĀ“t realized that until 4:55PM of course!...you, know this things are bound to be forgotten when you travel like this.
After recovering from the brillance of my foolishness, I decided to just walk around and wander into the outskirts of the tourist sites and walked into a mall
that was having a fashion show. So i got to see some Germans models shaking it on the catwalk. So then I also found the post office and send some of the postcards I had bought earlier. Then off I went back to the hostel.
And now I should figure out what I want for dinner!!
Hasta la proxima!!
