cableguy, I'm not too familiar with "night life" lately (being a "mature traveller"), but wondered if you had considered Prague? IMO that would be preferable to Belgrade. London would be a good choice too, as it would be much closer for you. Eastern Europe will be somewhat less expensive, but with only £500-600 to spend, you'll have to consider travel costs as well. Amsterdam might be a good "compromise"?
Good luck!

Nightlife in Brugge is OK, but it's better in Brussels. Try places like Bier Circus (over 200 beers on tap) which is good for sampling beers, Delirum Cafe (opposite the Mannekin Pis statue) is a lot of fun, or my favourite, Celtica, which is a sort of Irish-style pub but has 400 beers on tap downstairs and a disco upstairs. Guaranteed great night out.
If not Brugge/Brussels, then how about Munich. The reason I suggest it is that at the end of October the O'fest hype has finished and the city returns to "normal", plus it has some great nightlife over at the old Kunstpark Ost, which is now known as Kultfabrik, as there are a plethora of clubs/discos to choose from. You will be able to get cheaper accommodation after O'fest too. I like Eagle's suggestion of Prague, but as you've been before why not try somewhere different.
