Hey I'm thinking of getting away from England and travelling to somewhere in Europe for a few days around August/September. Have been to Austria, Germany, Poland, Spain, France, Holland, Italy and Greece in the past but never alone (except Poland and France) Interested to know which European country is coming off cheapest at the moment...(Obviously with the euro, differentiation between the countries isn't that clear, but if you can suggest anything that would be great thanks) I know Eastern European countries might be the best bet but would quite like something a bit warmer.. I get a bit bored of beach holidays so would really like to have a lot of interesting sights and culture around. Would like to go somewhere that is a popular backpacker destination so that I can meet people, and if anyone knows any cheap hostels that would also be appreciated!
Hope my criteria isn't too limited... Tempted to go to Krakow as I have been there a lot in the past so would feel quite safe but the usually cheap airlines are a bit temperamental and expensive at the moment.
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

Working on a relatively small budget, I guess maybe a few hundred pounds (including transport to Europe) depending on how much work I do leading up to it.

What about Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast. It's Eastern Europe with the warmer weather. Maybe Varna - I'm a fan. It's cheap as chips to visit so for a few days you would struggle to spend a couple of hundred pounds. Only problem is most of the flights are booked up with package deals so getting flights can be an arse.
Or if you don't fancy that what about Barcelona. I've never been but it's got bucketfuls of interesting sights and culture. It is a popular backpackers destination so I'm sure there will be opportunity to meet people. And the sun should be shining! Only thing I don't know is what prices are like at the minute.
If I was you although you would feel safer in Krakow and ther is nothing wrong with visiting Krakow I would really think about visiting somewhere else. Take the plunge it will be more rewarding conquring a new city on your first solo trip. Just my opinion.
This post probably rambled a bit maybe someone else has some thing more concrete.

Maybe Croatia? Dubrovnik is reachable with cheap airlines, you can also take a buss into Montenegro (Kotor), or Bosnia (Mostar) for other cultural trips.
