Goodmuncheng
Praha started with a blast.
Met with a local friend and went out to a house party where I met lots of English speaking people. Good conversations where had and after a few hours, the party moved to a night club where the fun continued until the weee hours. I had my first shot of absinth that night. And then another one the next night. Still, I have not met the green fairy yet. Maybe I need more than one shot? I tried after downing a few the first time, and then as the first drink the second night, but no damn fairy! I shall keep trying and keep people posted.
Saturday, was a nice, sunny, and warm day. I made a point of not going indoors at all. I walked my way from the hostel to the Praha castle and spend most of the day there. took lost of pictures. Strolled around the Mala Strana section of town on my way to and from the castle. This is the part of town that really makes Prague what it is. The Charles Bridge, which connects the old town area with Mala Strana was bustling with tourists, street artists, and crafty vendors while the steam boats seemed to be fighting for the right of way to go under the bridge.
After walking through this touristic hub, I made it to the old town square to catch one of those infamous walk tours. The one that I caught was the "Ghost Walk". It was more funny and silly than educational. The guide took us to a few places and told us a story about each place, which he sweared it was on history books and then told us the local legend. The hour after the tour was finished was when I walked back to the hostel. Nice walk regardless of the tiredness from having walked the entire day.
Today was a total contrast with yesterday. I was awaken by the sound of the rain drops hitting the rooftops. It was 9:30 when this happen. Today was one of those days that I wished to remain in bed watching bad teen-movies drinking hot cocoa.
I woke up two hours later and made myself get out and just be out of the hostel. I started a little tour of the shopping malls downtown Praha. That gave a chance to keep warm and rest a while. It was after I decided to find a coffee house, that on my way out of that particular mall, that I walk by a liquor store. I almost walk by it, when out of the corner of my eye i saw it staring blankly straight into my eyes: Absinth.
I went in and a few minutes investigating and and 980 korunys later I was walking out with a bottle of Absinth, 2 matching cups, and a mixing spoon. I was glowing. Now, lets just hope that customs let me in with that in my luggage.
I made my way around the old town square with a big smile in my face from that time on. I stopped at a place and bought an umbrella to keep myself dry. The only thing missing to make my day was the hot cocoa. So I ventured into finding a nice coffee house where I could just sit, relaxing and chilling and warm my spirits with a warm cup of sweet, sweet cocoa.
After spending a few hours of writting in my journal and gleeing over my absinth, I set myself out to the nearest tram station and subsequently, back to the hostel.
What is left for me in Praha?
Of sites to see? Mainly the Church of Bones, Kutna Kora I think is called.I hope to do that tomorrow so I need to dig up some info on how to get there. This is made difficult by not having a guide. But then what kind of fun is there when things are easy?
Until then...enjoy!
