I will be traveling with a friend to Budapest at the beginning of October and am looking for recommendations on things to do outside the normal tourist spots. Are there any great pubs, bars, clubs you can recommend? What about a reasonable hotel? Any great food places to enjoy? Any tours that are amazing? I will be in Budapest for about 3 to 4 days and am looking forward to an AWESOME trip.

Lonely Planet just did a programme about Budapest I haven't got the exact details but they were caving. It looked well cool if you're into that sort of thing. They also travelled to an airfield 30mins from budapest and went up in a glider flying over the city. It cost £20 (GBP) for about 20 mins. Sorry it's a bit vague I'll scout about for more details.

It's an old post, but if anyone stumbles on this I actually went to Budapest a few years ago and did the caving... it was awesome, much more tiring than I would have expected, but that just made it more rewarding.
I have the publicity for it in my travel journal, but it only says 'Caving under Budapest', no address or anything... I actually booked it through my hostel's reception.
But definitely give it a go, they pick you up in the city, the bus ride's not very long and it's an amazing exprerience. Just a tip: protect your camera if you bring it with you... you only have a front pocket in your caving overalls to put it, and since I crawled a lot, it came back all scratched. I'd suggest to bring a disposable one with a flash.
