I will be traveling with a friend to Prague at the beginning of October and am looking for recommendations on things to do outside the normal tourist spots. Are there any great pubs, bars, clubs you can recommend? What about a reasonable hotel? Any great food places to enjoy? Any tours that are amazing? I will be in Prague for about 3 to 4 days and am looking forward to an AWESOME trip.

If you are in town during a weekend, I would check out the scene at Mecca www.mecca.czI think it's the best club in Prague, and they get international DJs regularly. On nights when it's a local DJ, things can be pretty tame though. If the weather is still nice, there are two amazing beer gardens in Prague. One is in Letna Park and is a relaxed place with amazing views of the entire city and the river. This is a really fun place to go while there is light out if the weather is good. Another beer garden is in a park called Riegrovy Sady. This one stays lively at night. It's outdoors, though, so both these places require decent weather. Both places are popular local and expat hangouts, and not really part of the tourist track. Great places to go to meet people and enjoy life. A reasonable hotel is the hotel Abri: www.abri.czIt's a 3-star hotel in a residential area in the center of Prague. A friend stayed there recently and was quoted 50 Euro for a single room, or 60 Euro for a double. Since hostel beds can cost 20 Euro a night, I would definitely recommend this place for two people. It's nothing super fancy, but it is in a great location, is comfortable, and not so much more than a hostel if you get a double room. As for food, it really depends on what you like. There are a ton of restaurants in Prague covering all kinds of dishes. I would stay away from any seafood, though. It's ridiculously expensive and not that good. But in general, things are getting more and more expensive in Prague these days. About the only thing left that's cheap is beer. Everything else is pretty comparable (or, heaven forbid, even more expensive) than other places in Western Europe. If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to try to answer. Likewise, if I am available, I'd be happy to show you around when you are here. Happy travels, Ray in Prague
