Hello everyone!
I'm looking to do a bit of traveling this coming winter (Jan-Feb range) in Europe. I have a starting line (Rome) and a finish line(Amsterdam). I'm looking to spend 2-3 weeks on this trip, using train when possible to go from one destination to the other.
I've traveled to Europe on 2 separate occasions, the most recent being Spring of 2006 (I spent 3 months in Rome for a semester abroad), so I have experience with traveling, the preparation and wits I guess in what it takes.
I will start with 4 to 5 days in Rome and end with 4 days in Amsterdam. Assuming I will be in Europe a total of 21 days, lets say that leaves 13 days to explore others cities in between the two... [glow=red,2,300]THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN[/glow]
Any day to several day trip ideas that are not in Italy or the Netherlands with a rough idea of how much it would cost for a bed, a bite to eat once a day, some money for the occasional local brew, etc.
All of these suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
ALSO...suggestions on what to see and do while staying in the city. Anything about medieval or Renaissance Europe, any really amazing art galleries, baroque art or architecture is always good too. Live sports is another I'd love to see, especially soccer and hockey. A hockey game in Switzerland is my favorite "maybe" right now... so What would you do if you were a 22 yr old kid that likes live music, pretty statutes and paintings, good beer and the like...nature and small towns with Terra Cotta roofs and flower baskets on windows.
what would you do with my 13 days?

In short you want everything within 3 weeks ;D
It would help to know when you are travelling. I think that I would take a flight from Rome (or an other town in Italy) over to Spain, and go for a trip in Andalusia. Granada and Sevilla are amazing places, with also some good entertainment in the evenings. You can also visit some of the smaller places in the region (like Arcos de la Frontera or Ronda, don't know abot the Terracotta roofs btw). From there get to Madrid, and from there a flight to Paris, and see Brugge on the way to Amsterdam.
