As some of you already know I have my mind set on Madrid for a while. I've been busy arranging all the things, and I will be moving to Madrid next tuesday !!! ;D ;D If somebody is going to Madrid, let me know and I will be happy to show you around (if I am not working of course) The nerves are still under control, and I am looking forward to the adventure. I am wondering how long it will take until it feels completely natural (or even plain) to be there. I've been to Madrid 2 times in the last 2 months, and it strikes me every time, that I feel at home is this big city, while I have been living in small villages for whole my life.

herrbert, that's fantastic news! ;D
I know you've been planning this for awhile, and it's great that it's finally going to happen. I assume this is going to be somewhat of a "permanent" move? One question though, are you fluent in Spanish at this point? Also, what type of work will you be doing?
I'm still in the planning stages for trips to Spain and Portugal, so when I do get to Madrid, I'll try to stop by for a visit.
Good luck in your new home!!!

I spent this past May in Spain and had a wonderful time. Unfortunately, I only was able to spend 1 night in Madrid. Do you speak Spanish? I only know a few words and was able to get by during my stay.

¡enhorabuena!
I know you've been planning this for a long time, herrbert, so it's great to hear you're finally getting to move there. Somehow I don't think Madrid will ever feel "plain" to you! ;D

Thank you all for your wishes, I am looking for a job at the moment, and at the moment I have 3 proposals I am considering, all jobs require me to speak Dutch (and English), and make it possible for me work in Spain pretty easy. I will have time to learn Spanish in the evening and in the weekends. I am learning Spanish at the moment, but I am not fluent yet. As a EU-citizen I have the possibility to live and work here, without many problems. Eagle: there is a lot to see in Madrid, and when travelling Spain and Portugal it is city hard to avoid, as most flight and trainconnections (for sure the AVE) go to Madrid. Let me know when you come to Madrid. I am would be happy to show you around.

herrbert, I imagine you'll be fluent in Spanish very quickly. The ability of Europeans to function in different languages always amazes me.
I'm still working to learn Italian, and also hope to be fluent some day. I'm considering going to Italy for a month or so to get some immersion training, but that will have to wait until after retirement next year.
You're very fortunate to have the ability to work anywhere in the E.U. with few problems. There are many on this side of the Atlantic that would like to be able to do that.
Good luck in Madrid!
