Hi there! I,ve been reading for my upcoming (well... september) Italy trip and I've seen that september is not the high season yet.
BUT : in my LP guidebook it says july august is high season but on the Bologna page, it says hostels fill up in Bologna for september high season.
Any particular reason?
Is september really really touristy?

Ciao jennifer! Not sure why LP states that about Bologna specifically, there are a few events going on in September: (Settembre Dantesco or "Dante's September" where readings and performances of Dante's works are given, Gaggio Montano sausage festival (!), Festa dell'Uva wine/grape festival, a three day food festival (!). So other than the Dante works, which usually only run for a week or 10 days, can't see why hostels would be booked out, although University begins again in September so that might put strain back on the hostels as the Uni dorms can no longer be rented to travellers.

Jennifer, are you travelling with your mom in Bologna? What sort of prices are you seeing?

jennifer,I noticed this on another website, and I'm wondering if this could explain why Bologna is so busy in September? Did you check the HI Hostels? It appears they have two properties in Bologna (looks like a short distance out of town though), with prices as low as Eu$16 for dorm beds. Have a look at www.hihostels.com/dba/list.php?lang=E for the details. Cheers!

I don't know about the high season, but I couldn't find many an affordable dorm in central Bologna and settled for the Bologna - Due Torri-San Sisto for my stay at the end of July. Only 16 Euros.

Hi! Yes Willtravel, with my mom, why? Basically, being with someone older makes no difference on our budget. My mom wants to backpack Ideally, I would like a double room near center of town or right next to a subway or bus. Thing is, this doesn't seem to exist in Bologna... Eagle, i'll check that out, maybe that's it
