So me and a friend will be backpacking through europe from apr. 27 to june 8. we'll be staying in hostels all throughout the way. We'll land in london (because its the cheapest i could find) and head to the netherlands, to belgium, france, italy, and greece. i added up the costs of the train pass and plane ticket (about 1100) and i was just wondering how much you guys think i should bring to cover the hostels, food, etc.? Thanks a lot, and im canadian so could you clarify if its in american dollars or not? thanks

I'm not sure if you meant "bring" literally, but for most of your funds, have an ATM card and withdraw money from ATMs. Also have credit cards.
I think it's safest to budget for 75 Euros per day, although you may be able to spend less. But better to have too much than too little, and some of your destinations are expensive.

I took a quick look around a couple of the other boards, but could someone give me a breakdown of what one day's expenses might be? I know a hostel might run me 30 euros for the night, and I'm planning on splitting food costs with a friend (more supermarket stuff than restaurant), so maybe another 10 euros each? how much did you guys spend on admission costs into places, travel around the city, etc.?

It all depends on where you are at.
I budget 50 pounds or Euros a day but that does not include my accomodation and almost off of my transportation. Most of my experience is in England, so I'll use that as my example.
If you want to see the Tower of London it's 13.50 Pounds (25 CDN), St. Paul's is over 7 pounds, the zoo is 16 pounds, etc. The only way to make London affordable is to visit most of the free attractions. Thank God, most of the big ones are free.
A cheap lunch, even bought at the supermarket will run you 5 pounds or so. More if you buy at Marks and Spencers or buy pop with your meal. A supper at a pub will be 8 or more pounds. Allow yourself some extra for snacks, etc. Chocolate there is amazing.
For getting around you need to buy a tube pass. If you don't, it's damn expensive.
I'm not sure if this helps.
