The day begain with rain...again...and pouring rain this time, although still very mild temps.
Headed out to the Borghese this morning. This is a do not miss! Even if the art does not wow you, and with some of Berlini's most spectacular sculptures to be seen hard to imagine it would not, but if it did not the house itself is well worth the money to visit. A reservations only place, a bit out of the way and not too easy to get to....if you are in Rome make the effort. It is that good! A huge park\grounds surround it, would be so lovely to walk in however not this day I fear.
Visited the Capitaline museums after that, again, today is museum heaven and I dallied there till almost too late for lunch. And then, just as I go off the bus at my stop....I swear it was like someone just brushed the clouds away and here is the sun. It was the oddest thing, really, just has been pouring rain all morning and in the space of it seemed 3 minutes the sky was blue and everyone was putting away their unbrellas. No gradual clearing off or brightening.....just suddenly it was over. Magical Rome!
Well, have been rather in the dark as far as news of the world goes so far, but this hotel has CNN......so now I know that things are just a mess and going horribly wrong in Iraq, seems every country in the world has sent help to Iran (they keep listing who is sending what every half hour it seems) and if this newscast is to believed the evil US has not helped in any way, the DOW and NASDAQ are leaping along, get's an oh so brief mention followed with yet another dour report on the 'failing' economy, the mudslides in California are big news of course as they report that due to the US forestry failures there were such horrid fires this year and now the rain brings the floods. And this is reported to be a US company?? It is simply infuriating the slant they put to each piece of news. Have picked up the International Herald Trib a few times, but hell, that is the NY Times so the slant there is almost as bad. USA
Today....please. I am looking for news, not fluff. Twice I have managed to secure a days old Daily Telegraph and devoured it from cover to cover. The woes of a news junkie overseas.
Today I had grilled beef with green pepper sauce....I would do bodily harm for that recipe! Preceeded by bruschetti with spicy green tomatos. Also roasted potatos, fabulous, really roasted till the outer was deep golden brown, almost like skins on a baked one and all brushed with oil and sprinkled with fresh rosemary sprigs, a wonderful mixed salad, house red wine, and coffee. And I have developed a real pleasure in not only morning cappus but also the meal following deep dark espressos. God I simply love the coffee in Italy...anyway they serve it to me it is beyond description!
Tonight the opera....so I must go take a quick rest and shower before I go. Trudging in the rain all morning has made my hair look a bit disreputable...at least for the opera.
take care everyone.
