Urgent help!!! I need to define this ASAP. Here's the deal. On my first backpacking experience I'm planning on sticking to the mayor citis, taking them as base to one (or two, if it gets to that) day trips. Fist thought was to give Paris, Praga, Florence and Rome each 5 days (each including at least a trip to other attraction outside the city). Taking it easy. A friend of mine that went to Europe recently told me that she thought, and I quote "You'll be bored that many days in Florence", meaning it was beautiful, but a relatively small city. I know I won't get bored, but I don't want to overdo Florence, and miss more time on other city. What do you think, I gave it to much compared to the other cities?? The side trip in Florence is Pisa, wich I think doesn't even take the whole day. In case the previous question is afirmative, I was thinking of cutting maybe a day of Florence. Wich city should get it IYO: Rome or Paris???

I tend to agree with your friend in saying that 5 days is a lot for Florence. It is however possible to spend on day in Pisa, or maybe better in one of the smaller towns in the countryside outide of Florence. I would even think that 5 days for Prague is a bit much, but again there are enough possible daytrips to keep you happy (think Cesky Krumlov, or even make it a stop, for a night.
If you would need to choose between adding a day in Paris or Rome my vote would go to Rome, but that is because of my love for history. If you like museums, and lots of art, Paris might be a better option for you to spend the extra day in.
you could also leave Florence a dat earlier and spend one day in Siena. There are options enough.

any, I'm biased in favour of time in Florence. I understand why some people think 5 days would be too many - it is a compact city, but again it depends on what you like to do. There are so many hidden treasures in terms of art, architecture, etc, and then there's the simple pleasure of sitting in a cafe for hours on end just watching the world go by while the light changes (there's that "Tuscan light" thing that is just amazing!) hourly.
I agree that you don't want to spend too much time in one city and potentially lose time in another one that has many more things you want to see/do. However, there are day trips to take from Florence (other than half a day - IMHO - to Pisa) such as Siena (as is listed), San Gimignano, Montepulciano, Lucca, Greve in Chianti....as you've said you'd find things to do in the 5 days. I guess it comes down to what you want to see/do in Florence vs what you have listed for Paris and Rome and if you have allocated enough time to both of these as well.
