I'm about to go to New York, London, then do a 3 week bus tour of Western Europe before going to India for a week then home. Somewhere I read something that said NOT to take jeans to wear for winter because they take a while to dry. Now I can understand this reasoning - but what on earth am I supposed to wear instead? Also are washers and dryers easy to find while travelling? If so I'll just take my jeans and do a wash once a week. If anyone has suggestions for a packing list (particularly a winter packing list - most listed ones are a bit summery for my purposes) then that would be appreciated.

Laundromats are pretty easy to find. Ask your bus tour company if they stop at any hotels that are close to laundromats. They should know.

I had read the same thing in a travel book that says that you shouldn't pack jeans cause they take an extremely long time to dry. I honestly tried it out here at home to see how much longer a pair of flannel pants, cotton and a pair of jeans takes to dry in comparison to each other. And really there’s not that much of a difference with my dryer it takes about half an hour to forty five minutes for all of them to be bone dry. I enjoy wear jeans so I’m going to take mine along anyway just cause it didn’t seem that far off drying from other materials. Might as well be comfy right ;D

As someone who RARELY wears jeans and took one pair on my last trip and found them to be a PAIN, ITA with the advice to choose other garments. A good pair of black pants will be more comfortable, dry faster, not show stains, match with more things, take up less space in your bag, weigh less, transition into evening with just a change of shirt or addition of a scarf, and just probably make you happier all the way around.
Check out Travelsmith, LL Bean, and Eddie Bauer for pants. Look for things that have elastic waists and advertise that they are wrinkle free and hold their shape.
