Now I'm starting to get nervous. Their CEO has stepped down and they brought in a guy looking to "restructure" and that it is likely they will decare bankrupsty. I'm leaving in 30 days. I'm worried

I'll be leaving at the end of May and after watching the news this morning, I'm a bit worried too. Hopefully, the government would provide some help for "Canada's national airline"?
I booked my tickets through a Travel Agent, so at least I'll be able to get a full refund throught the Travel Assurance Fund.
Hopefully everything will work out?
Cheers!

A big chunk of me thinks this is to break the union and that's it.

What a sucky thing to happen (again) to a great airline! I hope they are able to sort it out - for the sake of the airline workers and moreover for the sake of our GFE travellers! ;D What's the likelyhood of the government stepping in to ensure the existence of the national airline? I ask as this has happened in recent years in a few countries. Although I'm sure this is a bit of chess-playing a la ex-Qantas CEO Geoff Dixon (he's the chess player of all airline chess players!) to sort union issues out, there is a very real chance that the usual "luxuries" we've come to know on airlines such as AC (meals, headsets, etc) will be slashed to save money.
Fingers crossed for you all!

Air Canada is pretty low on amenities as it is. For example, they charge for pillows and blankets. I can't give a run-down on which flights have meals or not, but I'll be flying them again Saturday to Buenos Aires (Vancouver - Toronto - Buenos Aires).

I've never been charged for a pillow or a blanket on a flight. When did they start doing that?

Air Canada is pretty low on amenities as it is. For example, they charge for pillows and blankets. I last flew them three years ago, LHR-YYZ, and wasn't charged for anything on that route, but things change in that time I guess. I did, however, enjoy the flight and the service was fine. Will be interested to hear about your flight on Saturday, WT.

OH..ok. Most of my flights with them have been trans-atlantic. I guess they have to supply them for that. I did, however, nearly starve on one trip because they didnt' feed us. That turned out to be a mistake as the food was left behind. LOL
Still not as funny as when the captain came on the speaker to announce that the lone vegitarian on board wasn't going to get their veggie pizza because someone at the back of the plane had EATEN it while the flight attendants were preparing to serve it. They took it off the truck and ate it!

Aha! That'll be it then. And you have to love the marketing spin for a "unique take home pillow and blanket kit".
