I got back Saturday after a two-week trip. I will be doing a trip report and will post the link to that.
Definitely consider Argentina as a destination. It does feel a bit more challenging than Western Europe, but there is so much to see. Because of Argentina's financial woes (to be simplistic), your currency will go a long way there so for the same price that you are scrimping at in Western Europe, you can have a bit of luxury in Argentina. However, some unique excursions are still quite expensive, but that is inevitable.
I definitely want to return.

I have made one Argentinian friend here in Madrid, and the country is on my list, when my spanish is a little bit better, and when my financial crisis is over ... it's not only Argentinia in a crisis any chance on a short trip report?

My professor that I went to Spain with last summer is going to Argentina in the winter and I was considering going with her. Argentina is one of many places I want to visit. So many places, so little time and money.

WT, welcome home!
I'm looking forward to seeing your trip report, as I've never been to South America (maybe in future, after seeing more of Europe).

Herrbert, I hope your financial crisis is over soon. As for your Spanish, I think you will be fine with what you know, which seems like quite a lot already. Lots of people visit Argentina with no Spanish ability. I have some, but found it quite difficult to get into the swing of speaking and listening there compared to Mexico (not that I'm an expert in Mexico, but it was easier). By the time my trip was nearly over, I was starting to get into it more, though. If you can find a way to get to Argentina cheaply, it's mostly cheaper to stay there there than in most of Europe. As you know, I have a problem with short trip reports , but I will try to write up a two-paragraph summary in the next day or two.

WT, the photos were great!
Could you provide some details on how you posted those. AFAIK we're not able to post photos on the Boards here, so I was a bit curious.
Cheers!

Eagle, glad you liked them. That board uses Yuku software. Yuku is linked to the photobucket photo-sharing site. So I uploaded some pictures to photobucket, and then when I am composing a post there, I am able to access photobucket directly.

My trip report: europetogo.yuku.com/topic/8026/t/WillTravel-s-April-2009-trip-to-Iguazu-and-Buenos-Aires.htmlA brief summary: Iguazu is beautiful, and really enjoyable. Although I haven't really sought out nature sights before, this is really, really special. Buenos Aires I found to be a challenging city, probably more than any other I have visited (including Madrid, Rome, Bucharest, and Mexico City, all of which are typically considered challenging). I think I found the poor sidewalks and the traffic to be a nearly constant, low-level irritant. But there are lots of really great things to see, music to hear, and food to eat. I will likely return, and I will stay in a more serene area, maybe cut back on the walking a bit, and just take it slowly.

ha ha ha, indeed a short travel report was too much to ask ... It was a nice read. I was just wondering how your friend like Ushuaïa. I think that a future trip to Argentina is likely to include Patagonia as well. But my first big trip out of Europe will be to Oz, so I think it has to wait to bit.

My friend liked Ushuaia. As a town, it isn't beautiful at all, but there is great nature. She liked the Beagle Channel boat ride, which is quite expensive, but there really aren't too many options if you want to see that. She would have really liked going to Antarctica, and going to the glacier at El Calafate, but the time/money was too much. I hope you can take your Oz trip soon. Maybe you can do a round the world trip .

I don't think my boss would like it if I do a around the world trip, but you'll never know. I have to start saving first
