Hello everyone:
Just a quick entry to let everyone know that I made it to Paris safe and sound. My flight was indeed uneventful. Unless you count the hordes of screaming little kids. Didn't sleep a wink but at least it wasn't a rough flight turbulence-wise.
My plane landed at 8:40am and Air France managed to make an unholy mess of the luggage. They actually spread the Toronto luggage all over the other Int. carousels. I got out of there eventually and then took the airport shuttle bus of my nightmares. I learnt one lesson that's for sure: never ever ever drive in Paris!!! There seemed to be no rhyme or reason to the traffic flow. It just kind of went how it pleased. We managed to hit (okay nudge) several vehicles and jump many a curb on our way here. Crazy I tell you! Eventually I made it to the Cite U though - at about noon.
Right now I'm running on about an hour's worth of sleep. I also haven't eaten since dinner last night. Needless to say I look a mess. I have to fix myself up though -- I'm meeting Laila (my ex-roomie and very good friend from my last Paris stay) for dinner. Gots to look presentable!
I should just close by saying that the day hasn't been all trying. I was actually really really pleased when I saw the Concorde as we were coming in. It was just sitting there! I never thought I would see one of those so it was exciting. I've also seen the Eiffel tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Invalides (that's where Napoleon is buried -- it's an insanely overdone temple like structure), and my beloved Luxembourg Gardens. I have to admit that when we drove past the area around the gardens I got really really excited -- that's my old hood! And actually I'm heading to that area in about an hour. Laila and I have decided to meet just in front of the fountain at Place St. Michel. I'm looking forward to it -- just hope I can stay awake.
Signing off until I'm recuperated . . .
A Canadian in Paris (I mean it this time!!)
