does anywhere aside from Paris have hostels?!
as far as I can find, there are no hostels in bordeaux, lyon, montpellier...!
this is a problem, as I want to visit some places outside paris, and as I'm by myself, it is completely over my budget to pay for even the cheapest hotel room!

Looks like the Montpellier one is not one you'd want to stay at. Try hostelworld.com too.

i've been looking on hostelworld.com, and its just showing me hotels... I thought possibly cause of no vacancies, but usually when I search it shows me all of them, whether they are full or not. thanks for those.

Looking at hostelworld.com it looks like they don't have very many HI hostels in France on their list. So perhaps they just don't believe in using Hostelworld. So look for hihostels.com and also just do a search for something like Auberge Lyon on Google. Here's the French HI hostels site: www.fuaj.org/

It may be because you are booking during a peak time and most hostels are filling up.

aussiechick007, As WT mentioned, I'd also suggest checking www.hihostels.com/dba/country-France-FR.en.htm as they have properties in many different parts of France. I've found the facilities fairly consistent in HI Hostels and it appears they have Hostels in Lyon & Montpellier. You might also check www.hostels.com, although I also found they list some budget Hotels. I usually "mix" my accommodations between Hostels and budget Hotels, as some nights it's nice to have some privacy. Good luck and happy travels!

Rent a flat in www.1weekflat.com, we rented the "Sainte Anne " flat it was great, confortable and clean. It is cheaper than the hotel because you don't have to go to the restaurant, you can cook your meal at home. It is a great solution to travel in budget

Two Posts, both with the same details, both in older questions - I hope this isn't advertising....
