Hi, I'm trying to tentatively plan out what I'm going to see each day during my trip to Europe especially as far as getting museum passes. When I was planning out Rome, I found out (thank God) that Vatican City, except St. Peter's, is closed August 15 for Ferragosto. So I was wondering if anyone knew about any other holidays that would cause things to be closed in August? I'm going to be in London, Paris, Venice, Florence, and Rome from the end of July until August 17.
Also, I have to catch an early flight from Rome to London on a Sunday. Will it be hard to find a taxi or some form of transport to the airport then? I think we have to be at the airport at 8AM.
Thanks for any help!

Which airport are you going to in Rome?
Check to see if the Terravision buses will work for you. But buy your ticket the day before so you can be sure of a seat, if you go with this option. This leaves from a stop near Termini.
It shouldn't be difficult to get a taxi, if you choose to do that, or you can even book a car service which is sometimes cheaper. I know people have posted about these car services on the Fodors Europe forum, but I don't know one offhand.

As far as London goes there are no holidays in the time you are away. There is a bank holiday at the end of August but you will have left by then. The schools are off during July and August so it may make things busier. Generally most things are open on Sundays but they may close early or open later so it is best to check first.

Wow thanks guys, sorry I didn't reply sooner, I just had finals. We're flying out of Ciampino. I'll have to check on those buses.
Thanks madamtrashheap, that was really helpful!
12 days and I'll be in Spain.

hi, in Italy almost everything is closed on th e15th of August as it is a religious festivity. Rome is quite desertic ( in terms of locals) in August...national planned holidays...everybody's on the beaches. same thing for many cafès and restaurants but the good note is: prices are very good especially for accommodations as for they it's low season! If it happens you are in Venice for the 15th, well you are lucky enough to enjoy a big religious ( but not only) festival :the redentore! Fireworks at night from the San Marco basins reflects their lights on the water... take your camera!! you won't be disappointed. is the biggest events in Venice during the year! it is firstly a pilgrimage to the redentore church and they connect the island where the church is with a bridge made of boats. In the night people have dinner in their private boats/yachts on the San Marco's basin to enjoy the fireworks... try to be there and book in advance any lodging in Venice it will be packed up ( no low season there!!). Also: in Venice there is the 53° Biennal of Art: it is always open and it is an absolute must if you are there! more info here www.flashbooking.com/events/show/36/53rd-international-biennal-art-exhibition_venice_07-06-2009_22-11-2009.html if you wish to go
