Hey everyone,
I'm trying to find a great backpack that I'll be able to use for a 30 day trip to Europe. I'm trying to keep my costs down, and would love to be able to buy it in person rather than purchasing online. What size (in cu in or L) would you recommend? I've found a few that I like, but I'm afraid that they will be too small.
Thanks! Will

willburress, it's a bit difficult to recommend a particular Pack size without knowing what type of kit you normally travel with? As a general rule, Packs in the 70-80 Litre range are a good size for travel. Before looking for a "great Backpack", it's very important to choose a model that fits your torso size properly. Most of the weight should rest on your hips, not your shoulders. Any competent sales person should be able to measure your torso length and properly fit the Pack. You'll also need to consider what features you prefer in a Pack. For example: - Panel Load (with zippers) or Top Load (often with a drawstring) design? - Detachable Daypack (works great for carry-on when the main Pack has to be checked). - Stowable Harness system (the straps are designed to fit behind a zippered panel during air travel, in order to prevent these from being damaged by airport baggage equipment). - Rain cap feature (few Packs have that, but it's a nice feature if available). As you might have noticed by reading other Posts here, Eagle Creek Packs are a big favourite with many here (including me). Check www.eaglecreek.com/bags_luggage/adventure_travel_packs/ for details on their products. At times some of the online retailers such as REI have slightly better pricing than the "suggested" retail prices. Cheers!
