There are quite a few Posts regarding this topic scattered around the Boards, but the simple answer is: unless you hold an EU passport, it is difficult and you will run into issues with legality of working without a relvant passport or visa.
Depending on what passport you do hold, if you plan to work in, say, the UK, you may be eligible for a working holiday visa and some other EU counties such as the Netherlands have agreements regarding other passport holders.

I don't have experience with this topic, but I think the last user is right in what they said about holing and EU passport. Also, in general it takes a long time to find a job, especially if it will be for a very short while... so I think this would make the whole thing more difficult and not worth it if you are wanting to travel around and not stay in the same place for too long

Iamalamb,
Welcome to the Boards! I have a few comments to add to the others.
You didn't indicate where you're from, but unless you hold an E.U. Passport you'll be subject to the three-month Schengen Limit and it will be illegal for you to stay longer than that as a tourist. As I recall, the U.K. is not part of that, so with careful planning you might be able to stay there for the first month before entering the Schengen zone. Hopefully one of our other members can confirm that. Keep in mind that the U.K. is a VERY expensive place to stay!
It may be difficult to get a job in some countries due to "language issues". If you don't speak the language of that country, employers will be less willing (and perhaps not able to) hire you. However, I should point out that I have encountered Australians working in Italy, but I'm not sure how they obtained the jobs?
If this is your first trip to Europe, I'd highly recommend reading the Guidebook Europe Through The Back Door as it will provide lots of information to help plan the trip.
Good luck!
