Im leaving for 5 weeks in a few days to Western Europe. My friends that are going with me have a big concern on getting bed bugs in the hostels. SHould this be a big concern? If so, what can we do about this?
Thanks!

I don't think anyone can give you a magic bullet for this problem, which is quite prevalent. From what I've heard, most urban hotels (and probably hostels) have had this problem at some point or another by now. Reviews might indicate if the hostel has a rampant, unchecked problem, but you can never be sure. I've read to look for tiny, pinprick bloodstains on the mattress, but I suspect I'd never be observant enough to tell.
So my main concern would be to not bring them back with you or around with you. If you notice any strange itching, head to the laundry. Wash your clothes, and dry them in a hot dryer (the best way to kill them). I've read not to put your suitcase or backpack on the bed.
If you are concerned, when you get home, launder your clothes right away, and clean and vacuum your backpack or suitcase. You can probably find some other tips online.
I hope science comes up for a good solution for this soon!
