So, here i am, finally writing to you on GFE! Im so sorry ive neglected you, but its hard to keep a bilingual blog, and long, and costly cause the damn free internet at the librabry doesnt work yet! But hey, i love you all and im not forgetting you!
I figured I'd just copy my blog here, as the main stuff is the same! If you do have questions about the places or tourist questions, dont hesitate!
So here is more news from last week's adventures in Ireland!
Dublin was great! Everything started off with intense rain and a taste of „we should have stayed home“ in our mouths. It rained and rained, but we were really happy to meet Arja, the hospitality club member who was nice enough to lend us a bed for our stay! For the first night, it was already late so we went to eat at Eddie Rockets, a „diner“ type place like Nickels, typical irish. What a surprise to see that not only were the hamburgers 7 Euros, they also didnt come with fries! So, 3 Euros more for fries! Ok, it was good, but not enough for 10 Euros if you ask me! And after all this you wonder why i spend my money so fast overseas!
After eating, we went to a pub near Arja's. NON SMOKING! What great pleasure it was to savour a beer without smelling like an ashtray on the way out! I cant wait to come back to our country that will no respect the rights of non-smokers! Eating without smoke, dancing without smoke! Oh god i cant wait! And Germans smoke like chimneys!
The next day, we couldnt wake up early cause Arja's daughter's bed was way too comfy! We slowly made our way to the city with the busses who are never on time, but that pass every 2 min. We walked along Dame street and saw the City hall, Christ Church cathedral, St-Patrick's cathedral, Dublin Castle, etc. We made a little picknick in the parc and it was relatively hot and nice. Except for the damn wind that seems to ALWAYS blow over Ireland!
We visited the main tourist sites, went to tourist info, did a little shopping, saw O'Connell street and the old post office, saw the Liffey river, etc etc etc! Because Arja was coming back late, we decided to take part in a musical pub crawl. It was really cool, we listened to traditional irish music and we discovered a little more about the Temple Bar district! So we came back relatively late to a comfy bed!
Saturday
We woke up quite late cause the bed is WAY too comfy! It was raining and we had almost seen all there was touristy to see outside, so we headed for the Guinness Storehouse, museum about the popular irish beer!
It was really interesting although most guidebooks trashed it! You learn how beer is made, and of course you taste it! The „shit whats the word...“ hum.. .the white stuff that happens to beer when you poor it, lol im stuck, cant figure the word. Anyways, its so thick that i wrote my name in it with my finger and it stayed! Not bad as a beer/meal!
AH yeah, i forget to tell you... at the airport, i was randomly selected to be „inspected“. Not very funny! The girl passed that little machine over all my body, but her hand firmly following it. The wasnt shy, put it this way! She played with my bra cause i have little metal wires inside to form the cups, etc. Well, i would have almost liked it if it wasnt a girl hahaha
We spent a few hours at Guinness, it was 6 when we got out. Andrée-Anne and I reserved tickets for a show that same night. We fiddled around town and at at an italian restaurant. I can tell you one thing, souvenirs are cheap in Dublin, but god do they make up for it on food prices! Pasta with tomato sauce, very simple... 14 Euros!!!! Crazy! A Soup, 4 Euros! Nuts!
So at 9 we went to our Traditional Irish tap dance show, mixed in with New Guinea modern tap dance. It was really really cool! The guys arent out of shape thats for sure hehe It was in a small underground theater, really fun experience to be able to see traditional stuff, but with a modern twist!
So, another night where we went to bed not too early and got up quite late We walked around town, did a little shopping cause here, FINALLY, they are not all anorexics, so they have my size, but weirdly sewn, ill tell you about that in person, its complicated to explain in writing. Around 6, we made our way to Stillorgan, the suburb where Arja lives. We bought wine and indian food for supper with her! It was really good and it was different from the normal cheese, bread and pasta we have been eating!
Impossible to tell you about Dublin without telling you to which extent traffic is fucked for us! First off they drive on the opposite side of the road. ARRRRRRRRRR! You have to look every which way to make sure you wont get squashed before you cross! They have roundabouts everywhere and the crosswalks are basically only a suggestion! Its hell on earth! Compared to slow Freiburg anyways! Ah and buses are two stories, like in London, id never seen that before so its cool. Well, you wanted details, you got some now!
Ah, yeah, AA and i noticed that when people bump into you on the sidewalks, they dont give a shit and never say sorry... Not very polite heheh
Other misceallaneous fact : Toilets are weak there. They almost dont flush for a few minutes and then the water starts gushing out like no tomorrow and you think there will be an earthquake... weird!
So, already at the end of our Dublin adventure! Monday morning, we woke up early and caught the bus to the airport, but because of course the city bus was so late, we had to grab the aircoach, which is a fast but expensive bus to the aiport in order not to miss our flight. Waited at the airport. Ttrain to Freiburg. Got home and did light grocery shopping and went to eat at Subways. Back home and did nothing but unpack!
So, there it was
Love you!
