Hi all - I'm planning a trip to UK/Ireland this summer and am wondering what is the best way to get from Belfast to Dublin. I was thinkin train, but I can't figure out how many transfers there would be, and how the border crossing would work.
thanks!

goinsumwhere,
First of all, welcome to GFE!
The trip from Belfast to Dublin is very easy by train. Depending on where you're staying in Belfast, you may have to take a Taxi or whatever to the station (that's what I usually do).
I don't recall any "transfers" on that route. If you travel from Belfast Central to Dublin Connolly, you should be able to get a direct train. It's a very pleasant trip of about 2 hours.
Again, when you arrive in Dublin you might consider a Taxi to your Hotel (there's LOTS of them). You may also be able to use a Bus or other local transport to your Hotel, but I usually take a cab so don't have any information on that.
If you need any additional details, post another note.
Happy travels!

thanks eagle
Which rail service offers this route? I've looked at IE and NIR and both websites can't seem to compute a cross-border trip. Oh well, from what you say it seems I can just show up and get a ticket. Do you know a ballpark cost?

goinsumwhere,Have a look at www.irishrail.ie/home/ and check schedules for Belfast Central to Dublin Connolly. Also have a look at www.translink.co.uk/future/ENT_5_O.asp. As I recall, the fare was about €38 for one-way travel from Dublin to Belfast. For travel in the reverse direction, current fares for a single one-way are £28 (keep in mind these may change prior to your trip - note the difference in currencies). Check the Enterprise Fares on the Translink website. Cheers!
