Does anyone have any strong feelings about a particular brand of rain jacket/pants? I know many recommend just an umbrella or poncho but since I've got some hikes planned, I want to be able to spend all day in the rain without getting a cold/pneumonia/fungus..or what not. I'm looking for something that will compress in my pack. Possibly the Marmot precip jacket/pants. Thnks!

hey goinsumwhere, I have a really great Columbia rain jacket from Dick's sporting goods (could be found other places, but that is where I bought mine). It is completely waterproof but isn't hot. It's lightweight but will also keep you pretty warm if it's chilly. AND it folds up into its own pocket making it about 5x5 inches and easy to pack into a daybag. I took it to Fiji with me last year and used it all the time, and I use it all the time at home too. Highly recommend it!
PS I just looked on the Columbia website and apparently the one I have is the Kona Rain Jacket (women's sizes), but the men's Watertight Jacket looks to be the equivalent.

goinsumwhere,I don't have any "strong feelings" for a particular brand of rain gear, but I always pack along both a Poncho and a small travel Umbrella. So far, I've only had to use the Umbrella a few times. I try to avoid using the Poncho if possible, as I'm sure I'd NEVER get it folded up again so as to fit the small pouch. The products I'm using are similar to travelstore.ricksteves.com/catalog/index.cfm?fuseaction=product&theParentId=126&id=321 these. Cheers!
