Hi guys,
I have been reading the boards a little over the last few months and finally decided to start posting as my departure time is getting closer and I haven't started planning yet.
I want to plan a trip around Europe starting from the last week of April, say for example Monday 26th. I then wanted to be back in the country for the 29th July so will probably return again on week beginning 26th July.
I live in the UK and this will be my first solo travel trip so I need quite a bit of help - so far I've bought a Lonely Planet guide called Europe On A Shoestring which I've skimmed through and I want to now work on my itinerary.
The main countries/cities I want to visit are:
Italy - Rome, Florence & Venice
Germany - Berlin & Hamburg
Netherlands - Amsterdam
France - Paris, and somewhere in the South (maybe Monaco)
Spain - Madrid & Barcelona
Portugal - Lisbon
Czech Republic - Prague
Austria - Vienna
Croatia - not sure on cities but heard it's a nice place
As you can see I'm mainly interested in touristy places, I want to do a decent amount of sight-seeing if only passing through places but I also want to try and meet new people and have a good time.
I'm not sure of the easiest route, I was considering starting in Germany as I have family in Hamburg who I can visit first and then move on from there - is this a possibility?
I know it's a good idea to book hostels etc. in advance but the only thing putting me off that is if I end up really liking a certain place and want to stay longer I can't as I've pre-booked everything. On the flipside I might want to move on somewhere quicker than I anticipated. Although I am setting myself a 3 month time limit, this isn't set in stone as I quit my job in January and have a decent amount of money to see me further than that, so if something happens where I want to hang around a bit longer I'd like the flexibility to do so.
Sorry for the long post - I welcome all suggestions and help, as I really need it!
Thanks in advance!
