Hi!
My friend and I are going to be in Paris for about 4 days. I already have our itinerary planned out but we really want to see a show. My only problem is we don't know what to see! Is the Moulin Rouge really worth (minimum of) 100 euros or is there another cabaret that is worth our money? Also I'm very interested in a Seine River cruise at night but my question again is, is it worth it?
Thank you! Lauren

I haven't been to Moulin Rouge, so I can't say. But my impulse is, that for budget travelers, it really is hard to justify something that is basically 2 days budget (more or less). If you know you like this type of show, and wouldn't mind paying for it, then do it. But this would be a lot of evenings at small cafes with jazz, etc. Some points to keep in mind: Taxis after the show may be hard to get. Look up night buses at www.ratp.fr . The dinner is supposed to not be worth it.

laurenc418, if you really want to see a Cabaret in Paris, then Moulin Rouge is a good choice - it's an assault on the eyes and there is so much going on up on stage that sometimes you don't know where to look. Plus they do one of the best can-can routines in town. If you have been looking at other shows, like Lido for example, know that some are better value than others, and the Lido doesn't do a can-can at all, which IMO detracts from the show. Stick with MR as you won't be disappointed.
If you are going to just the show (not dinner) then that will at least be a little less expensive, and you can choose the early or late show depending on your itinerary that day. The show only also usually includes a drink or two, but beware purchasing more after your included drink as the prices are mega expensive. Better to save that until after show and enjoy the included drink only.
Book ahead for the show, either via website or calling their booking number (they have English-speaking operators if you don't trust your French), rather than just showing up and hoping for tickets, the prices are no different and you are guaranteed a seat by booking ahead.
If you want a bit of a night out after the show, there is a disco (club) next door called Le Loco which is 5 levels of different types of music, or there is an Irish themed bar next to that called O'Sullivans which has a groovy atmosphere at the front and on some nights there is a DJ in the back. A little further down the same road (about a block) you'll find the laid back, very French cafe Le Chat Noir, which is great for a drink, but no music.
For the cruise on the Seine, again there are several to choose from but all are pretty much good as they provide commentary and sightseeing and can be done during the day or evening. There are also evening cruises with dinner, but these can get a little costly. There are quite a few cruises leaving from the Quay near the Musee d'Orsay, so perhaps do a little checking when you first arrive and see what suits you best. A river cruise is certainly a pretty way to see Paris by night, and the spotlights they use to highlight the buildings being spoken about on the commentary are a nice touch too!

I haven't been to the Moulin Rouge either but have heard that it's insanely over priced and expensive. It's become more of a tourist trap than any type of culturally relevant landmark - or so I've been told. For 100 euros, I'm betting you could find something a lot more rewarding to do!

Cruising, is really very good and different experience for you if you like adventures in life. Seine River cruise is also a good option for cruising, you can enjoy your trip with adventure with it.
