Hi! I am very aware of how long the lines can be at the Vatican. I'm looking for personal opinions on whether or not it's worth the extra money to get a tour of the Vatican simply to skip the long queues? Or, if we get there early enough in the day, for example at 8:00 a.m., if the lines shouldn't be too extreme? We are going at the end of July and I know that is peak season for tourists. Also I read somewhere that if we were to view the Sistine Chapel first, it leads into the Basilica. I was wondering if anyone knew if this was true? So again my question is strictly opinion based and I appreciate all the opinions I get! Thank you, Lauren

If anything, the lines may be more extreme at 8 AM than late in the day. For me, it would be worth it. Consider the total cost of your trip, and how precious a couple hours are, if they allow you to see and enjoy more.

Thank you! Everyone was telling me that too. I just like getting as many yes's as I can

Hi Lauren,
It is true that if you take the exit on the right of the Sistine Chappel you end up in the Basilica. But expect that in the morning the line for the museum is pretty long.
In the weekend the line for the Basilica is longer than during the week. In my opinion the line before the Basilica is always moving so it doesn´t take a very long while before you get in. It depends a bit on how many scanning machines are in use at that moment.
