I have several days with a tour group in Paris so I will see many of the Paris attractions on my tour. I also have 3 days in Paris as a home base. Any suggestions on day trips from Paris?

clever1963,
Which tour group will you be with? It would help to know which sights you'll be visiting as part of the tour?
One possibility is a trip to the Palace at Versailles. What are your interests?

My bus tour goes first to Avignon and then further South to Arles, Aix en Province. My river cruise will go north west of Paris, first to Rouen and then onto Normandy. Versailles is not on the itinerary so I have now added that.
I enjoy visiting quaint little towns. Enjoy flea markets, shopping, scenic areas, castles, taking in whatever might be unique to an area, wineries. I am not a big museum person.

Day trips from Paris include:
Versailles - depending on what you want to see, could be a half or full day
Giverney - visit Monet's gardens
Epernay - champagne region and vineyard tours
There are quite a few flea markets in Paris on different days of the week, just do a search on Paris Markets and the information is readily accessible. This may alter your need for day trips as there is plenty to see and do in Paris for 3 days. You could also consider a cruise on the Canal St Martin which is something different and certainly not mainstream. Or you can walk along a large section of it too.
In terms of sights IN Paris, what is listed in your tour itinerary?

I think all the main attractions, too many to list, are covered in both tours. I spend time with my bus tour and my cruise tour in Paris so that's why I was leaning towards using it as a base to enjoy the night life and fine dining in the evenings but taking day trips out. I may just spend time in Paris as you suggested since the tour groups can be so busy. It might be nice to have that down time to do as I please. But since I did get a rail pass, out of city day trips are mostly covered (with the exception of the additional fees I keep reading about).
Epernay sounds interesting. I will add that to the list.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
