Hey all So I'm heading to Europe for 9 weeks from end of May to the start of August. I don't know if I should bring jeans. Is it going to be to hot for jeans? I also find that they are inda heavy & take forever to wash & dry. If I go without jeans I plan on briging 2 or 3 pairs of capri's one pair will be denim & then 2 pairs of shorts & 2 skirts. Something like that. I want to bring jeans becaue I pretty much live in jeans & luv them dearly. So there's my pathetic little situation. Anyone got any advice/thoughts? Thanks!

You will find two groups of thought as far as jeans.. One says "I can't leave home without a pair of jeans and couldn't imagine travelling without a pair" (I belong to this group The other says they are heavy to pack and take forever to dry , which is very true. They are also very hot in the summer, so if you are travelling in the summer months, I would take a pair of lighter denim capris instead of full out jeans (for the women of course!) As long as they can go in the dryer and you don't mind a bit of extra weight, I say go for it. Worse comes to worse, you chuck them out or mail them home (for big $$$ though) Kim

So, whether I bring jeans or not, how many pairs of pants should I bring for the summer? (I almost never wear shorts - just don't like it)

Jeans! What a headache. Can you live with lightweight 'cotton' denim lookalikes? Or maybe cords? Jeans, while a staple, are simply too heavy, too long to dry, too hot in summer to be a worthwhile addition to your pack. Khakis are a far better choice imho. As stated here, some folks can't imagine being without them......and those same folks soon enough regret that thought once they begin to lug them about on their backs. Live daringly! Adjust your wardrobe. ;D Khaki's adapt better to dressier situations, are lighter, easier to wash and dry and present a more 'upscale' appearance even on a budget trip.

i live in jeans at home: black, blue, faded - i have nearly a dozen levi's. but on the road, they just don't work very well - for all the reasons above. since i'm not a "girl," practicality is too important for me to haul my jeans about.
unless i'll be staying in a home the whole time - with washer/dryer access - slacks are the way to go. i even take polyester slacks!

I appreciate the advice guys... I think I will pick some other kind of pant to bring. Not cord or polyester though - those would be way to hot for me.

Check out Eddie Bauer Outlet and Eddie Bauer, as well as LL Bean for some great, wrinkle resistant khakis and twills! There is a big sale on right now on EB.
I could not concur more with DO NOT bring jeans! They are a major pain to pack, to dry, etc., can be way to hot, and are not comfortable for long periods. If you are taking trains, you may end up sitting, laying down, sleeping in your clothes, and you will HATE it if those clothes are jeans.
Also Travelsmith has some great pants. Patagonia and Columbia offer convertible pants with the zip off legs which can be a great option if you think you will run into changeable weather and/or if you get to a site where you have to have long pants, like some of the churches in Italy. The legs fold up to next to nothing in your pack, and it is great not to have to run back to the hotel to chnage! Plus, they are very comfortable, stain resistant, wrinkle resistant, and I think pretty cool looking.
Down with jeans! LOL
