I am new to backpacking, and have decided to hike & camp the West Highland Way and Great Glen Way in May of 2016. I have a traveling companion, and am starting to work up my stamina. I am currently researching gear, and don't know which to get first. Seams like all the suggestions one item is dependent on another item.
Which would you use as your foundational what to buy decision? (I know I ultimately have to decide on all of them)
• Backpack • Hiking boots • Tent • Sleeping bag
So much to research, and I am so excited!

In May, in Scotland I would recommend planning your equipment to survive four seasons in one day. Although it can be warm ... Ish depending where you are coming from it can also be pretty rotten too. Plan for wind and rain and hopefully you'll get a little sunshine as well. Happy planning sorry I couldn't be more help on specific gear.
