I am planning on going to europe for 2 months and will be staying in hostels. i have read all about the sleep sheets and i was wondering, wouldnt u get cold with only a sheet? i was thinking about taking one of these compact sleeping bag things along w/a sleep sheet, do u think this is a good idea or just a wast of space and money? will i actually get that cold? here's a link with the picture of the sleeping bag www.menda.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=456 thanks!

Cool! I love Menda stuff!! Didn't you say you were going in summer? Doubt if you'll need it, but that's a cool little thing indeed! Wait for others to reply....I am NOT a hostel person so could be wrong.

Most hostels don't like you to have sleeping bags and sometimes forbid them, because they carry bedbugs! Almost every hostel has an option to rent sheets or provides them free. They also provide one blanket per person. If you are going during a cold time, I would think in terms of warm night-time clothes instead. I would only take a sleeping bag if you are camping or know for sure you are going to places without sheets.

melissa, last summer i just went backpacking through europe and i pretty much stayed in a hostel in all 14 cities that we went to and we didn't need a sleeping bag or anything like that at any of the hostels. Every hostel we went to provided sheets or at the most you paid like a euro extra for sheets. It's not necessary to have a sleeping bag. Besides it will probably just take up room for packing all your stuff. But if you plan to like camp out or something then i'd recommend having one. but other then that you wouldn't need one.

sleeping bag is not a good idea. weighs too much & is of *very* limited usefulness.
